a field manual for an ordinary life — money, faith, music & a dog named fluffy.

Have you ever wondered what a blog post is actually made of? Mine are not built from clever ideas. They are built from a feeling i could not put down, a handful of words that came out wrong the first nine times, and one quiet hour where nobody needed anything from me.
this is a place where i think out loud. no schedule, no niche, just whatever refuses to leave me alone — usually money, faith, music, leaving home, and the dog who has no idea i am leaving.
fig. 001 — a post, exploded into its layers.
every feeling has a shape a little like this — it builds quietly, spikes when you are least ready for it, and then slides back down into ordinary. the trick to writing anything true is to catch it near the top, before the hill flattens out and you convince yourself it was never a big deal.

a thought rarely travels in a straight line from where you start to where you end up. it bends. and what bends it are two control points you can barely see — the things pulling on you from off to the side. change one of them a little and the whole path through an idea changes.
